Pioneering research pursues the driverless car

Canergie Mellon robot car (UGV)General Motors and Carnegie Mellon University have announced a new Collaborative Research Lab (CRL) and a renewed commitment to work jointly on technologies that will accelerate the emerging field of autonomous driving, looking to future achievement for  the driverless vehicle (UGV, ANV: Automatic Navigation Vehicle).

Robot space freighter

Photo of Ariane 5 launcherThe European Space Agency carried out the launch of a robot freighter designed to rendezvous automatically with the orbital space station.

The Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), named Jules Verne, is a nearly 20-tonne payload , it was aboard an Ariane 5 launcher. After being placed in orbit, the cylinder craft will deploy its solar panels and gently find its way to the International Space Station (ISS) and berth with it.

Champion robot car

Boss robot car from C.Mellon UniversityBoss, a car with sensors and computers by a team of engineers from Carnegie Mellon University, won the most famous of robotic races: the Urban Challenge. With no human assistance, the vehicles competing in the race had to safely and quickly navigate city streets while staying in their lanes and avoiding other moving and parked cars.
